Ted Gibson has been campaigning to get hairdressers recognized by Academy for its own award or Oscar. It was announced yesterday that hairdressers will now officially get the nod in the new category of "Make Up and Hairstyling".

"This is a huge step forward," Ted told me when I stopped by his salon in NYC earlier today. "It's really because of all of US that this has started.  It's not its own ballot, yet, but we are headed in the right direction."

Ted admits that this "campaign" was actually started by so many stars before him. "Even Betty Davis and Joan Crawford wanted their hairdressers to get an Oscar. They understood that the hair was integral to the character. It's important that people know how fantastic this is and how we do change people's lives. It's nice to see that we are now being recognized on a larger scale. This is validating us as hairdressers and what we give to society."

Ted wanted me to make sure to pass along his thanks to everyone out there who responded to his campaign in social media. "We all made it happen....thank you everyone."
