October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Chances are, many of the people who work in your salon, as well as your clients, have been touched by this disease in some way. Here are a few ideas on how to raise awareness and funds for the cause this month:

1.    Pink Thursdays (or Tuesdays or Fridays …): Pick any day of the week and make it pink ribbon day. Encourage your team to get creative with it. Anybody can wear a little pink loop on their chest-you are beauty professionals! Wear it in your hair, as a belt, as shoe laces, etc. Have a reward at the end of the month for the most creative ribbon style!

2.    Pink Ambience: Do you serve water and coffee to your guests? Maybe you always have a fresh vase of flowers at your front desk. This month, turn it all pink! Serve pink lemonade, have a dish of pink candy, a bouquet of pink roses at the reception area, pink cocktail napkins, etc. Don't forget to have some literature on self breast examinations and regular mammograms for your guests to get educated on their way out!

3.    Donate a Percentage of Tips: Let clients know every Friday of October, your salon will donate a percentage of its tips for that day to breast cancer research. Ask your salon owner to match the total. Chances are, you'll see an uptick in tipping that day.

In Dubai, Clients Visit the Salon Every Week. Here’s What That Market Can Teach You

In Dubai, a salon visit isn’t an appointment. It’s a weekly routine, and clients can spend $800 to $1,400 a month on it, according to Gaurav Tripathi of MADI International. On October 6-8, 2026, the market behind those numbers opens its doors as Beautyworld Dubai marks its 30th edition at the Dubai World Trade Centre, bringing together distributors, brands, stylists and salon owners from all over the world.
