The Rebirth of a Devastated City and Salon

I came across this inspirational story a couple days ago and it really touched my heart. Read how the residents of Greensburg, Kansas worked together to reconstruct their hometown after getting hit by a devastating EF-5 tornado. After three years of reconstruction, the town celebrated a day-long festival along with the long-awaited reopening of The Last Tangle Salon.

On May 4th, 2007 the town of Greensburg, Kansas along with the surrounding Kiowa County was hit by a devastating EF-5 tornado that destroyed 95 percent of the city. The town was in ruins, and half of the city's population left after the tornado. However, half of the residents stayed hopeful and committed themselves to rebuilding their hometown of Greensburg.

Over the past three years, the town has undergone massive reconstruction. Recently on June 14th, 2010, the town celebrated their renaissance with a day-long festival of activities involving the community and all of Kiowa County.

Peel's Salon Services, with the partnership of Biolage, Xenon International School of Hair design, Kaemark, and European Touch, hosted Makeover Greensburg at The Last Tangle Salon on the town's Main Street, in celebration of the salon's long-awaited reopening by owner, Debbie Boyle.

"We are so thrilled to be able to celebrate how far we have come as a community," says Boyle. "So much hard work and love has been put into this rebuild-now this is our chance to give back to everyone who has selflessly helped put ourselves back together."

Residents of Greensburg and Kiowa County were invited to get a complimentary hair cut and make-up consultation from members of the Matrix Artistic Design Team and Xenon School of Hair Design. All the cut hair was collected and donated to Matter of Trust, the non-profit organization that is creating products from recycled hair to be used in soaking up the oil spill in the Gulf.
