WHAT:

The Julien Farel Salon provided hair and nail services for approximately 450 people on site at the US Open.

WHERE: Arthur Ashe Stadium at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York.

THE DETAILS: Julien Farel, owner of the Julien Farel Group in New York, created a mini salon next to the Player Lounge with three hair stations, two nail stations and a make-up station for the two-week event. Players, VIPs and celebrities were invited for some pampering, cuts and styling post- or pre-play. "We've seen some big players including Jelena Jankovic, Novak Djokovic, Gilles Simon, Daniela Hantuchova and Marat Safin," says Farel, a huge fan of tennis and style.

MOST POPULAR: According to Farel, players and VIPs were split evenly between cuts and styling, and mani/pedis. "Many of the female players have been getting our HairThread service because it looks great and keeps their hair in place."

BIGGEST MAKEOVER: Rafael Nadal came to the Madison Avenue salon the week before the Open to get his hair cut short. There were several mentions about his hair in the media including ESPN2.

SPONSORED: Phyto Hair Care was one of the salon sponsors (including HairThread, Yves Saint Laurent and Natura Bissé) and Farel felt their participation was key. "Phyto Hair Care is a large contributing factor because they are natural-plant based and have an excellent sun protective line, which is necessary on the court."
