Willow Smith "Whips" Her Hair

It's not often that a song about hair causes a sensation. Willow Smith rocks the "Cotton Candy Dream" style.

It's not often that a song about hair causes a sensation. Willow Smith, the precocious nine-year-old daughter of Hollywood stars Will and Jada Smith, has done just that though, with the release of her new song and music video, "Whip My Hair." Embracing texture and braids, she rocks several different looks throughout the video, even using her hair as a paintbrush. Stylist Marcia Hamilton was there from start to finish and gave us the scoop on how she created the styles.

One of the first looks Hamilton created were ultra-long braids that were then dipped in paint, allowing Smith's hair to become her own paintbrush. While creating these braids, Hamilton applied White Sands Orchids Oil throughout Smith's hair to add shine and ease braiding.

Smith's "Heart Hawk."

To create the "Heart Hawk" structure in the beginning of the video, Hamilton wrapped the braids around a pre-made wire shaped heart and secured with lots of glue. To finish, she sprayed the funky, one-of-a-kind design with IT&LY HAIRFASHION'S Purity Design Pure Definition Hairspray.

For the faux-hawk variation seen throughout the video, Hamilton hand colored clip-in hair extensions with bright colors using IT&LY's Colorly Xtreme Colors. She recommends this as a quick and easy way to add rock star flair to any hairstyle without it being permanent.

Smith's next look was the "Cotton Candy Dream" hand colored lightly with pinks and greens. To hold these poofs in place, Hamilton added hues of pastel colors using IT&LY HAIRFASHIONS Colorly Xtreme and Colorly Hair Color to the pieces, then holding the shapes in place with White Sand's Stuck Up Mega Hold Hairspray.
