First job: While in beauty school, the owner needed someone to work at night in his salon. So I was in school until 4:30 p.m and then in the salon until 11. I later bought that salon.

Milestones: Team trainer for the only USA team to ever win the gold medal and be named World Champions; work gracing the cover of MODERN and other magazines; sharing what I know with younger hairdressers through the Aquage Masterclass Academy;

Big break: Turning in my notice at the factory and accepting the scholarship to cosmetology school, and agreeing to postpone retirement to join Luis Alvarez and Aquage six years ago.

Career advice you received: From late husband Gary Bray: Care about people, help them to grow. From Leo Passage: Do what you truly love. Only then will the creative force inside you open up.

Career advice you give: Be who you are, stay true to yourself and never allow “being a woman” become your reason for success or failure.

Working on: Broadening my horizons, while remaining an influential mentor and teacher at the Aquage Academy.
