Pivot Point stresses the importance of students being able to “see and think as a designer” through each of its lessons. Recently, we had the opportunity to bring in our first LIVE models to the salon floor and perform a full consultation, cut and style.

I’m in my 10th week at Pivot Point, and we’re just wrapping up our lessons on long hair design. I love being creative, but I have a hard time getting started. Because I don’t have much experience, I need to have an idea of what I want to do before I begin—but I’m not at the point where I feel confident enough to create a wearable look that doesn’t look too prom-y or avant-garde. It’s like I’m having a tough time finding a happy medium. Now that I got out the “Debbie Downer” in me, OH MY GOD! I love updos!

Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve wanted to go to beauty school. My first experience cutting hair, aside from my Barbies’ heads, was on my little sister Megan. Her hair was getting a little long, I thought she could use a bang trim. The problem was, I was seven years old, and she was four. I used kitchen shears, and then proceeded to let her cut my hair afterward.
