Empire Beauty School asked their students to show us how they would style Beyoncé, Iggy Azalea and Taylor Swift for music’s biggest night.
Empire’s ‘Style the Artist’ Instagram contest asked students to choose one of these 3 Grammy nominated stars; Beyoncé, Iggy Azalea or Taylor Swift; then style a Grammy worthy look for the artist of their choice.
“As a stylist it’s fun to imagine styling an artist for a big event.” says Karie Schoeneman, Vice President of Education for Empire Education Group. “We know competition inspires students. When we have the chance to incorporate that inspiration into something they enjoy, like music, it’s a great chance to get students involved.”
More than 570 styles were uploaded to Instagram for the contest, but just three winners were chosen by Empire’s Education team, based on the following criteria: Polished Finish, Balance, Level of Difficulty and Adherence to Wearable Red Carpet Hairstyle.
The first place winner was Ly Phlo, a student at Empire Beauty School in Boston, Massachusetts for the style she designed for Taylor Swift. Phlo won a Farouk CHI kit valued at $500.
Second place went to Victoria Asnina, a student at Empire Beauty School in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, for her look designed for Iggy Azalea. Asnina won a Babyliss Pro X2 Ferrari Designed Clipper.
Third places was awarded to Karina Kotok Astakhov, a 2013 graduate of Empire Beauty School in Lebanon for her Beyoncé inspired updo. Astakhov won a Sparkle Baby blue S1 shear kit.
“The styles our students have come up with are glamorous and inventive.” says Schoeneman. “Many of our future professionals designed looks that truly fit with the stars personal styles.”
