For many years, Pete Goupil had been following the artists behind the North American Hairstyling Awards (NAHA) and the beautiful work that comes out of the competition. 2019 marked Goupil’s first nomination—and win—for the awards, being honored Men’s Hairstylist of the Year. The Quebec, Canada-based salon owner, international barber and educator rocks a signature look complete with colorful tattoos, bright track pants, and a neatly groomed mustache and cropped hairstyle. 

Born and raised: Born in Joliette and raised all over the province of Quebec

Best part of your job: Making people feel good

Hardest Part of your job: Being rushed

Best advice you’ve received: Love what you do and you will never work a day of your life. 

Something that would surprise people about you: I am an avid fisherman and hunter

Favorite men’s hair and style era: The ‘40s

What is a tip or trick you think more young stylists should know?: Understanding of shape in a haircut will simplify the craft for you.

I am a barber because: For me men’s hair is all about technique and tiny details—I love that!

Best piece of advice you ever received: If you’re passionate about something, then being good at it should come naturally.

My goal as a professional: Become an artistic or creative director

What do you consider your greatest achievement?:  My baby girl Esther. I’m also pretty proud of my NAHA 2019 Men’s Hairstylist of the Year win.
