Born-this-way color and perfectly natural curls complete this beautiful client, compliments of her colorist, Montana Schmidt (@paintslikeschmidt).

"I have done this client’s hair for about 6 years now,” says Schmidt, a color specialist in Danville, IL, and a MODERN SALON 100 honoree. “We’ve been silver, red, black, shades of brown, to blonde pops-- you name it! This time we freshened up her highlights and went a bit lighter for a nice bronzed, low maintenance look. And, yes, those curls are 100% natural! All we do is finger coil, diffuse for extra bounce, and separate for sassy volume.”

Step 1 - Using Oligo Pro Blacklight Cool Toned Lightener, I start with 10 volume developer in the back of her hair and as I work around her hair.  I eventually up it to 30 volume. I use a technique where I alternate babylights and teasy weaves for blended pops of dimension.

Step 2 - I shampoo her out and pre tone her with Schwarzkopf Goodbye Yellow Shampoo.

Step 3 - I gloss her base with Schwarzkopf tbh 4-64 with 6 volume developer and tone softener to create a demi with a permanent longevity.

Step 4 - I gloss her ends with Schwarzkopf tbh 5-49 7-49 and 9-49 (to create about a level 7.5/8 tone…and because I ran out of 7-49 so had to improvise 😊) with 6 volume developer and tone softener.

Step 5 - I apply Oligo Pro Primer before styling. I then apply Oligo Pro Curl Balm to finger coil her to style with her natural curls. I then diffuse and separate accordingly.
