This spring, Michelle Obama was spotted wearing her natural texture, and the internet immediately rejoiced. During her eight years as First Lady, she always wore her hair straightened and sleek, but the reaction to a single candid shot of her natural curls is just one example of how big, beautiful texture is celebrated.

In the past year, many celebrities have been attending formal events with ampedup curls rather than the controlled styles and updos that often rule red carpets. From brushed out, cloud-like texture to ’80s-inspired ringlets, big texture has been a runway and red carpet favorite lately.
