In PRAVANA's 2014 Show Us Your VIVIDS Contest, students and stylists entered their most creative color creations for a chance to win a trip to PRAVANA's headquarters in California, a 2015 editorial photo shoot featured in a national magazine as an editorial spread and a PRAVANA Glam Kit with product of their choice (Retail Value: $1,000).

PRAVANA Artistic Color Director, Vadre Grigsby and PRAVANA Guest Artist, Danny Moon from the Andy Lecompte Salon chose colorist Maria Santana as the first place winner based upon her submission's overall creativity, technique and impact.

As a result of winning the 2014 Show Us Your VIVIDs Contest, Santana was given the opportunity to travel to California to create her 2015 winning photoshoot! Check out her stunning icy blue creation:

"I’m thankful for all the opportunity I have been given with PRAVANA," says Santana. "I wanted this look to reflect the opposite of the Red VIVIDS look I created that won the 2014 Show Us Your VIVIDS Contest. I wanted the colors to reflect winter. And when I think of winter I think of frosty ice which led to the idea of a shimmery, silver pallet. The blue and teal color found woven throughout the hair has been frostbitten with some VIVIDS Silver, creating an icy cool frozen creation."

Here are how-to steps and the formulas for her stunning, icy blue look she created during her winning 2015 editorial shoot.

HOW-TO:

Formula 1: 6 parts ChromaSilk 7.11 : 1 part ChromaSilk Blue Ash Corrector

Formula 2: VIVIDS Silver

Formula 3: 3 parts PASTELS Blissful Blue : 1 part VIVIDS Silver

STEPS:

STEP 1: Section the hair into quadrants.

STEP 2: Beginning in the nape and working up, apply Formula 1 to 1-1 ½” from the scalp, all over. 

STEP 3: Once completed, resection the hair into quadrants.  In each of the back quadrants, part out a horizontal slice just below the occipital and apply Formula 1 to this slice in a foil. Continue working up the head, applying Formula 1 to slices in foil about 2-3” apart.  There should be 4 total foil slices with Formula 1 in each back quadrant.

STEP 4: Moving into the side, part out a horizontal slice just above the ear. Apply Formula 1 to the slice and separate with foil. Continue working up to the parietal ridge, applying Formula 1 to slices in foil about 2-3” apart. There should be 3 foil slices with Formula 1 in each side section.

STEP 5: In the remaining top section, beginning 1 ½ - 2” behind the front hairline, part out a horizontal slice. Apply Formula 1 to the slice and separate with foil. Continue working back, leaving out the crown. There should be 3 foil slices through the top.

STEP 6: Apply Formula 2 from the previous Formula 1 application through the ends of the remaining hair in the back quadrants and side sections. 

STEP 7: In the final top section, apply Formula 3 to the remaining hair from the previous Formula 1 application through the ends.

STEP 8: Process for 20-30 minutes at room temperature.

STEP 9: Rinse with cool water. Shampoo, condition and protect with VIVIDS aftercare. Style as desired.
