Josh Boynton (@josh.does.hair) of Wingate Hair Salon, Smyrna, TN., says that rose undertones, for both gold and brown bases are flattering for just about any skin tone. Boynton's first go-round on this shade didn’t come out as planned. “The very first client I had I didn’t know what to do, panicked and made her more ‘rosey’ and less 'brownie.' After trial and error, I finally figured out my favorite formula that has now become my go-to.”
For this client with a grown-out base and a lot of previous highlights who told Boynton she was “over” being blonde, said she didn’t want to go back natural or too dark. "So instead I gave her something kind of in-between in case she changes her mind later on.”
Here Boynton shares the details for the new look:
STEP 1: To blend her base with her highlights start at the root. Apply #Mydentity 5BB Brown Beige and drag down two inches past the highlight line of demarcation. “That helped merge the two together creating a more seamless blend.”
STEP 2: Apply #Mydentity 1oz. 7RG Rose Gold with 1/4 Oz. 7BB Brown Beige to midshafts and ends. Process for 25 minutes for full-color oxidation. Wash and treat the hair with Olaplex No. 2 and #MyHero Collagen repair. Towel dry.
STEP 3: Apply Olaplex No. 6 bond smoother mixed with No. 7 bonding oil and blow dry. Style with 1-inch curling iron spraying #MyDefender heat protection spray. Finish with MyPower firm hold hairspray to lock in the curls.
