This client's previous stylist used a base breaker when toning her highlights, and it created a lot of unwanted warmth in her overall look. When she came to Sarah McDonald (@styles.by.sarah), a blonde and balayage specialist, she had an inch of virgin regrowth and grown out highlights. See how she fixed her look.
Here she shares the details for this correction:
Step 1: Root melt using Redken Shades EQ cream 1/3 08gi 1/3 06NA 1/3 09NA and 10 volume pro-oxide. Start from the bottom and work up, combing through every section to create a drop root affect. Process for 20 minutes. Rinse, shampoo, condition and blow dry the hair.
Step 2: Place babylights using Redken Flashilift and Olaplex. The highlights around the face are applied from the root, and the rest were feathered up about half an inch away front the root. Process for 30 minutes.
Step 3: At the sink, “glam wash” (shampoo bleach) using Redken Flashlift with 20 volume and 6 pumps of all soft shampoo and a splash of hot water. Process for 5 minutes to lift out any old toners and brighten the ends to the next level.
Step 4: Root tap (darker root toner) using Redken Shades Gloss equal parts 08n and 08v. Drag down an inch (leaving out the front hairline) to blur out the highlights and achieve a "rooty" look. Process for 5 minutes.
Step 5: Tone the front hairline, mid shafts and ends with Redken Shades Gloss 1 ounce 09v, 0.5 ounce of 09nb and 1 ounce of clear. Process for 5 minutes.
Step 6: At the sink apply an Olaplex treatment and let it sit on her ends for 5 minutes, and then proceeded to shampoo and condition.
