Amanda Joseph (@thehearsalon) of Mia Bella Salon, Seattle, Washington, says "This client has been to multiple hairdressers and has spent a ton of money in her attempt to go honey blonde. She let her hair rest for 2 months and then came to me for the first time." This correction is from the first session. "As we all know, each session will help in the trek to get lighter as well as even," continues Joseph. "It may be hard to see in the picture, but all of the tones in her hair to correct included shades of red, black, green, grey, gold and platinum. From the multiple hairdressers, there has been a ton of different things going on so I had a LOT of work ahead to try and even her out and blend it together."
Joseph decided the best thing to do for their first session was a nice soft balayage. "I wanted to try and even out what I could as well as bring some light to the top of her hair. Her hair was multiple colors and very compromised toward the ends. In an effort to not compromise anymore, I figured this would be the best way to get a good base on the first session and give us more to work with for next time."
Here Joseph shares the HOW TO:
Step 1: Balayage light pieces with Keune Cream Bleach 30 volume with Olaplex number 1. "Leave out all of the platinum ends as they are already light enough and definitely don't need anymore bleach!" Wrap each balayage in foil to place a barrier.
Step 2: On any part of hair left out that were black, apply Rusk 8NW 15 volume, slightly feathered off roots to avoid hot roots.
Step 3: Process the hair with low heat for 20 minutes. Shampoo and condition the hair.
Step 4: Tone the top half of hair (not the platinum ends) with Rusk Icy White on damp hair at the bowl. "This helps cancel some warmth as well as even out tones."Step 5: Process for 7 minutes. Rinse well.
Step 6: Tone the top half of hair with Rusk 8NW. "This will help tone all of the old coloring as well as the new coloring to a closer match up."
Step 7: Process for 5 minutes and then pull down to the ends for another 5 minutes. "We wanted to still keep her ends a bit lighter."
Step 8: Apply Olaplex number 2 for 5 minutes. Rinse thoroughly and then shampoo.Step 9: Spray in Enjoy Intensive Reconstructive Spray. Apply a deep conditioning mask over that. Process for 5 minutes and then rinse.
