Today began bright and early with behind the scenes at Mara Hoffman, where we got the opportunity to interview Nick Irwin, lead hair for TIGI. Irwin reveals his inspirations for the hair were drawn from South American cowboy culture, "it's very windswept, sort of cowboys in the desert," he says.
The hair was set by wrapping sections around the fingers and heating the spiral with flatirons, creating hold by spraying with TIGI's Your Highness Firm Hold hairspray. Then the hair was brushed and fingers seperated the curls. Strategic pinning creates a triangular effect in the hair for an al around "lightweight, soft feel," Irwin says. "The hats worn in the show can sit on top of the shapes of the hair, and the scarves can easily fit under the chin."
The fashion debuted by Mara Hoffman was a mix of drapey, hooded fabrics that seemed to float off the runway. Bright, vivid prints, ponchos and layered looks (with names like Grandpa wrap sweater and Boyfriend pullover) were key themes. A trend spotted throughout many of the dresses, jumpsuits and tanks were strategically placed cutouts, at the small of the back, at the rib cage, and on the shoulder blades.
