Beyond all the factoids that led Kára McCullough to take home the highest honor and stand out among the rest (hello, she’s a nuclear scientist!) at the May 14 Miss USA Pageant at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, she was also the only competitor to wear her hair naturally curly. Fast-forward a few months later after being crowned, and her natural texture is still reigning supreme.

For an elegant style for your own curly haired clientele, CHI artist Rocky Vitelli walks us through how to create a faux bob on McCullough. In five minutes, Vitelli created this look on naturally textured hair during the Farouk Global Conference in Cancun.

We asked Vitelli what he would tell stylists who are a bit uncomfortable working with curly hair. His response? Don't be!

"I've worked with a lot of texture on shoots, and I think texture is something that the more you work with it, the better you get," Vitelli says. "For me texture is a learning thing every day."

Hear more tips from Vitelli and watch him style McCullough's hair below.
