Janel Latessa (@hairbyjanellatessa), owner/master stylist at JL Hair Artistry, Mayfield Heights, Ohio, says, “This new client pre-booked this appointment months ago for a change, but had a desire to go lighter while keeping her hair healthy.” Latessa points out that even though she knows many stylists would jump at this opportunity and get aggressive, it’s important to not rush. “When hair is this thick you just have to have patience.”
For this service, Latessa needed 90 minutes just to foil her hair, a small part of the four-hour makeover. “She wants to get her hair done two – three times a year so we needed to go for a low maintenance color design.”
Here Latessa shares the details for this transformation:
STEP 1: Begin in the back. Apply a full head of teasylights/foilayage usingLakmeK.Blonde with 20 volume developer, with Brazilian Bond Builder added. Foils are placed in a bricklay pattern.
STEP 2: At the front for a power highlight, place three back to back babylights with a light tease at the root. “This is to keep her natural for a low maintenance grow out.” Process to the desired lift and then rinse.
STEP 3: Pre tone using Fanola No Yellow shampoo for 3 minutes.
STEP 4: Shadow root: Lakmé Collage 7/17 7/0 with 10 volume. Mids and ends toner: Lakmé Collage 8/17 8/13 with 10 volume. Process for seven minutes.
