Meyner reveals how, at his beloved grandmother’s urging, he took his shears and left the tiny West Texas town of Hamlin for the big city of Fort Worth, unaware that he would someday found one of the city’s leading salons.

Meyner’s first job in Fort Worth was serving as assistant to the legendary stylist Phillip Trotter at the exclusive Neiman Marcus department store. This initiation into the upper echelons of Fort Worth society introduced Frank to a dazzling parade of gracious and wealthy Texas scions, larger-than-life stylists, and plenty of second hand smoke.
From the wives of oilmen and mayors to the heiresses of the largest bakery empire in Texas, Hairspray, High Heels, and Second Hand Smoke chronicles heartfelt confessions, myriad eccentricities, graceful charm, and the life-enhancing lessons Meyner learned from clients and co-workers alike as his career unfolded and he became ever more fully aware of how graciously his vocation had enriched his life.
“Everyone knows what it’s like to get a haircut. My book shows what happens behind the scenes, pulling back the curtain to reveal the perspective of the hairdresser rather than the client," Meyers says. “There are few occupations that offer the multitude of advantages I have been given.”
