Celebrity Hairstylist Frank Barbosa shares pointers on how to create a perfect faux bob using tucking.
Celebrity Hairstylist Frank Barbosa knows good hair. He's worked with a number of celebs, including Anne Hathaway, Kate Hudson, Jennifer Garner, Sarah Jessica Parker and more. The faux bob is a great springtime look, and Barbosa shares how to achieve it by "tucking."
Tucking is a relatively simple way to give the illusion of shorter hair without hacking off your clients' long locks. Hair can be rolled under or over, and it's a good way to change up a look or to have a test-run of a shorter style.

GET THE LOOK:
STEP 1: Start with hair that hits the shoulders at least. Decide how you'd like to part the hair and what texture you want to achieve.
STEP 2: Use a working hair spray (like IT&LY Pure Definition) to either encourage smoothness or texture, depending on what look you're going for, and give hair some shine.
STEP 3: Loosely gather the bottom portion of the ends and tuck under into a roll as short or long as you want the bob. Secure with bobby pins.
Pro tip: For straight hair, use a paddle brush to mold a sleeker tuck; for wavy or curly hair, use fingers to arrange curls in place.
STEP 4: Once tucked, use your fingers to fan out the sides. For added volume and tendrils, use the tail end of a comb to lift and pull out shorter pieces.
STEP 5: Finish with hairspray that provides staying power plus shine. For more styling options, add an accessory or slide hair behind one ear.
