California-girl beach waves are here to stay, says Pureology Artistic Director Ashley Hofstrand @ashleyhoffy, and for good reason. “Cali Girl style is fun and flirty!” she says. “It’s uncomplicated and looks effortlessly styled.”

What is changing, however, is the shape of those waves. “We’re seeing more of a horizontal shape,” Hofstrand explains. “Traditionally we inserted our irons vertically and either wrapped the hair around the iron or put in a loose wave. Recently I’ve been using my iron horizontally to achieve a different texture.”

A couple of “must-have” products support Hofstrand’s new waves. She routinely reaches for Pureology Beach Waves Sugar Sprayto create texture, and finishes with Pureology Wind Tossed Texture Spray for additional shine and texture. Another strategy that’s high on her list for producing the perfect finish on thicker hair is to combine Pureology Shine Bright Taming Serum with Pureology Mess It Up Texture Paste to encourage texture while discouraging frizz and flyaways once the waves are finished.
