Alisha Fultz (@alisha0488) of First Choice Haircutters, Riverview, Florida, took about 8 hours to complete this powerful deep violet color melt. "I wanted to do it safely to leave the clients hair in good condition," she says. "I chose to use conditioner as my Clear with Pravana Vivids because I love the shine and softness it gives the hair after the color is finished." Here she offers the how to on client Mariah, a natural level 5, who was looking for a "big change but with some violet". Fultz kept the base a bit darker and promises no filters or photoshop was used for this picture. She charged $160 for this transformation.
Formulas:
1) Base- 2 oz conditioner, 1.5 oz Violet
2) 2 oz conditioner, 1 oz violet, .5 oz Magenta
3) 2 oz conditioner, .5 violet, .5 Silver
Step 1: Using Matrix Light Master and 20 volume developer, apply 1/2 inch off scalp to ends in 1/2 inch sections to the virgin hair.
Step 2: Once that was lifted about 70%, mix a fresh bowl of Light Master with 10 volume. Cover all the ends of her hair.
Step 3: Immediately apply to the roots. Rinse thoroughly.
Step 4: On damp hair apply Color Graphics with 22 Promoter, 3/4 oz each of Violet and Blue additive toners. Feather this formula onto any brassiness or remaining darker spots in the hair.
Step 5: Working Panel to panel apply each formula using my base color. Apply to about 4 inches from scalp.
Step 6: Once the base was covered take one of the other formulas (depending on my panel i was in) and bring it up to about a half inch from base color.
Step 7: Lightly rub the colors together for slight diffusion.
Step 8: Process for 30 minutes and then shampoo and condition the hair.
NOTES AND TIPS FOR COLOR MAINTENANCE:
I suggested a sulfate free shampoo and conditioner so we can have the color stay vivid as long as possible. She purchased Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Wild Ginger Shampoo and Cream Rinse. She will only shampoo about once or twice a week and use a Dry shampoo between shampooing. I suggested not to do a hard scrub and just try to lightly rinse so the darker violet doesn't change the tone on the lighter violets. Also drying the hair ASAP so they don't bleed together while the hair is wet. Her color maintenance for touch ups will be every 5 weeks. I will use matrix socolor clear with 20 volume to remove as much of the violet as possible before reapplying more vivids. Future visits will only take about 3 hours since we are just lifting roots and applying the vivids.
