"This client had contacted me to get in for a cut and color, but because of the holidays I couldn't get her in until the middle of January. She decided she couldn't handle her length so she decided to have a friend just 'cut off a few inches'. This was the result. Her friend regularly cuts her family's hair so she felt confident in her skills. I'm not sure if this friend is a licensed cosmetologist or not.
"I was quite overwhelmed with her hair, as you might expect. Her hope was to save as much length as possible, so I began by doing a rough dry cut on her layers. I wanted to correct her as much as possible before I started the color. I lifted her layers to a 90 degree angle above her head to get a basic shape and then took my blending shears in to soften and blend her chunky, choppy ends."
Once the hair was cut, Reitz addressed the color. Here she shares the how-to:
Step 1: Apply a full head of foil highlights beginning at the nape. Color used: Alfaparf SuperMeche High Lift powder lightener with 20 volume. "As I moved up the head I switched to a 30 volume developer." Rinse once processed. Towel dry.
Step 2: Apply Redken Shades EQ 7nb + 7 in equal parts to her root to give her a natural shadowed root. Process according to manufacturers instructions. Shampoo with ColorProof Signature Blonde shampoo, Conditioner, and Restorative Filler, followed by ColorProof Radically Smooth Serum.
Step 3: Return to refine and detail the layers, blending until everything was seamless. Finish with a fusion of ColorProof CrazySmooth Extreme Shine Treatment Oil and FiberBlast for shine and texture.
