MAKEOVER: The Three Step Journey To Blonde

Hair color makeover by Breanna Weinhold.

2 min to read

Breanna Weinhold (@breebirds_hair) of Mane Haus Salon at Salon Republic The Village in Woodland Hills, California, is known for her transformations and balayage artistry.  She has had quite a journey with one of her clients who came in with splotchy, orange, halfway color removed hair that had some pieces longer than waist length and some that were shorter from being chemically melted off.

Here Weinhold shares the details for this step by step color journey to bright blonde:

LOOK ONE:

STEP 1: Cut off 12 inches of hair and add layering to remove as much of the old, fried hair while preserving as much length as possible.

STEP 2: Apply Pravana color remover in accordance with instructions.

STEP 3: Color hair root to end with Wella Color Touch 5/0 and double 6 volume developer. Process for 20 minutes and then shampoo.

STEP 4: Dry the hair. Balayage hair in an isolated foiling method using Schwarzkopf Blonde Me and 20 volume. Lift to a level 9 and then shampoo.

STEP 5. Tone hair with Redken Shades EQ 5N at roots/mid-shaft and 7GB, 9GB and 8V in the mid-shaft/ends.

SIX MONTHS LATER:

STEP 1: Paint through the dark hair with Schwarzkopf Blonde Me and 30 volume - foiling each section and avoiding overlapping on the previously lightened hair.

STEP 2: After dark hair was lifted to a level 10, pull Schwarzkopf Blonde Me and 10 volume through the previously lightened ends to brighten up. Shampoo.

STEP 3: Tone root to end with Redken Shades EQ 9N, 9GB and 9v. Process for 5 minutes. Rinse.

SIX WEEKS LATER:
Client returned to brighten blonde a little more.

STEP 1: Paint over the lightened hair with Schwarzkopf Blonde Me and 10 volume.

STEP 2: Tone roots with Redken Shades EQ 8N and tone mid-shaft/ends with 9N with a drop of 9GB. Process for 5 minutes and then rinse.

NOTES FOR STYLING:

Finish with It’s a Ten Miracle Leave-in, Monat Blow Dry Cream and Moroccanoil Treatment. Twist large sections and curl around a Hot Tools curling iron. Have the iron on high heat, concentrating on the entire mid shaft and leaving about an inch of the ends out for a more relaxed curl. Once cooled, apply Moroccanoil Luminous hairspray for hold.
