When Moroccanoil launched 10 years ago, the brand quickly became known for its devotion to healthy hair. Now, the cult favorite is jumping into the color-care game, launching Moroccanoil Color Complete, designed to enhance and maintain fresh color designs while maintaining the health and integrity of the hair.

“Caring for color-treated hair is more important than ever,” says Kevin Hughes, artistic director for Moroccanoil. Acknowledging that clients today are more experimental and sometimes sacrificing the condition of the hair, Hughes is thrilled that Moroccanoil has launched Color Complete to address the integrity of the hair, allowing him to create beautiful silhouettes with any color service from a single-process to extreme fashion color.

Moroccanoil first hit the professional beauty industry 10 years ago, and the brand has addressed hair health, quality and condition ever since. It’s no surprise a color-care line is now part of the portfolio, making life easier for artists like Hughes. Moroccanoil Color Complete features five products, two professional products designed as in-salon services and three take-home products. All the products include ArganID, Moroccanoil’s exclusive technology that uses the power of ionic attraction to infuse argan oil into the cortex for deep nourishment, while simultaneously helping to repair and seal for optimal color retention.

The two salon-service products are designed to maintain scalp and hair, and keep color vibrant. ChromaTech Prime pretreatment is applied to the base to prevent irritation and nourish a sensitive scalp, and then applied to strands to equalize porosity for uniform results. ChromaTech Post, applied after the color service, repairs, locks in color and seals the cuticle.

To preserve color and maintain condition the line has three take-homes: Moroccanoil Color Continue Shampoo and Conditioner, and Moroccanoil Protect & Prevent Spray to detangle, condition and protect from the environment. All are designed to restore hair to better retain color, prolong vibrancy, and add shine and luster.

“The line offers a 360-degree approach to color care,” says Robert Ham, Moroccanoil senior director of global education. “All the products are designed to work as a regimen, protecting and conditioning the hair from start to finish—but we don’t interfere with the color service.”

Ham adds that Moroccanoil recommends a $20-$25 up-charge when the products are used. “The service takes just three minutes to spray on Prime and five minutes for Post,” he says, “but the results make the service priceless for the color client.”

CLASSIC LIGHTS

Hughes invited color expert and celebrity colorist Briana Cisneros to join him for this session to show how the new line works on two types of clients—a classic highlight client, and the client who enjoys changing her color frequently, and needs some conditioning and attention.

“This line is a life-saver,” Cisneros says. “I start every color service with ChromaTech Prime to desensitize the scalp and to even porosity on the strands.”

The colorist used the entire Moroccanoil Color Complete line on both models.

“Putting icy and paler right next to my model’s dramatic brows and eyes add contrast and accentuate her features, making her look more exotic,” Cisneros says. “I wanted to incorporate her natural level 8 as a lowlight and backdrop.” Fine “tease-y highlights” were used throughout with detailing along the hairline to serve as a veil. “It creates an elongated look with she can carry off because she has a wide face.”

For shape, Hughes decided her classic cut forces a stylist to pull some magic out of his toolbox. “A simple style doesn’t have to look boring,” he says. “Simple hair can still have a cool vibe.”
