Flashy headbands and barrettes are this winter’s most popular fashion accessory.

YOUTHFUL VIBE

Recently, actress Elle Fanning was seen wearing a black and gold flowered headband looking sophisticated yet still youthful and fun. “The deconstructed hair styles are a great way to achieve both,” says Joseph Bogart, Pravana artistic educator. “The sparkle headband was a great way to dress up this look. I have a feeling bling will stick around for awhile.”

Try it: Loosely blow dry hair with Pravana’s Density Volumizing Foam and establish a side or natural part. Pull the hair back with little tension and secure two buns leaving the ends free. Finish with Pravana’s Twist Fiber Paste for texture and a flexible hairspray.

SPARKLE CHIGNON

Edward Teitel, Olez Professional Hair Care creative director and celebrity hair consultant, comments about TV personality Louise Roe’s loose braided chignon with sparkly accents.

Try it: “Even before trying to achieve this red carpet look, begin by restoring the hair’s shine, elasticity and manageability with Olez INCEPTION, a restoration treatment enhanced with apple stem cell technology,” he says. “Once phytonutrients, antioxidants and proteins have been delivered into the hair, you can begin by drying the hair with a round brush. Then, loosely comb back the hair into a side ponytail. Finish the ends with a loose three-strand braid. Wrap and secure the braid with bobby pins around the base. Pull sections at the top of the head around the ponytail. Finish off with the latest trend of adding a sparkly headband or accents.”

BEJEWEL FOR BEDAZZLE

Spotted wearing the prettiest of pretty adornments to her urbane updo, Kirsten Dunst was also seen wearing the snowballing trend: headbands that dazzle. “Until recently, headbands were known for their casual form,” says Nick Arrojo. “They were made for a day at the beach or for shopping on Main Street. But now the humble headband is on the rise. Whether Faux or Real McCoy, now you can get them with pearls or sparkles, diamonds or glitter.” Arrojo recommends wearing it with a whimsical, flirty and undone feeling, so it doesn’t look too forced.

Try it: Towel dry hair to damp and pulse Arrojo ReFinish Dry Shampoo through the style. Blow dry loosely with hands, encouraging texture and volume. Create a side parting from the front and sweep hair back on both sides. Put on the headband accessory. Make sure it goes from front to back, with the top of the headband forward off the crown, and the sides tucked behind the ears. Behind where the headband is sitting, use a curling iron or wand to create a few curly pieces. After each piece is curled, twist up to the headband, and use pins to fix in place.  Finish with Arrojo Primp Working Spray for hold, texture and grip.

BANGS AND BLING

Bangs—soft, blunt, edgy or thin and wispy, like those shown on Diana Agron, can embellish a simple style. This heavy bang can also be accented with a sparkle headband for some extra glam and sass. Try using a vintage piece or even something simple and sophisticated.

Try it: Gather the hair into a high ponytail or slightly lower at the ear and fasten with a hair tie. Separate a small section of hair from the underside of the ponytail and braid it. Hold the end of the braid and wrap it around the base of the ponytail to hide the hair tie. To hold the braid in place, secure the end with a bobby pin pushed into the base of the ponytail. Part the bangs out of the ponytail and add a bit of Simply Organic Bangs and Ends Crème. Finish the style with a mist of hair spray to provide shine.
