Joel Torres and Kelly Butz created this finish for the most recent Intercoiffure 2014 Spring Symposium. Get the details for cut and color here.
Joel Torres, a full time TIGI Talent Team educator and Kelly Butz, a TIGI Talent Team member and colorist at Hue Salon in Boca Raton, Florida, were challenged to come up with something special for the TIGI Artistic Team presentation at the most recent Intercoiffure 2014 Spring Symposium held in Boca Raton, Florida. Torres and Butz were inspired by "Eileen", Anthony Mascolo's classic undercut, and interpreted it for the Master Brand Collection segment.
"The undercut is finger depth in diagonal back sections," says Torres, a barber/stylist who relies on clippers for most of his cuts. "There is natural inversion on the top with a center profile section." Acknowledging that there is a LOT of detail work in this look, Torres adds "When you have an undercut you must pay attention to details. Any mistake will be seen, but I like to be precise anyway. I go for perfection."
For color, Butz followed the trend with a seamless root shading technique to create an illusion of soft oack through the root area progressing to champagne hues. She left the underneath a level 6 and then, for the roots on the top, combined 9/83 + 6/3 with a little 5/0. For the lengths she applied 9/21. All color is by TIGI Copyright Colour.
"The key for this look is finger depth," says Torres. "This look is a classic but ever evolving and is so on trend." In the meantime, help him build his following on Instagram, his current project: @joeltorresstyle.
