Wahl Education and Artistic Team (W.E.A.T.) member Garland "G-Whiz" Fox took Wahl education global with a trip to Asia, including Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Hong Kong.
While abroad, Fox educated on Wahl tools and techniques and both taught and learned about global trends. A lead artist and educator for W.E.A.T., Fox demonstrated American barbering techniques in Malaysia to more than 600 barber-stylists and followed up with a classroom seminar.

In Sri Lanka and Hong Kong, Fox lead haircutting demonstrations and training seminars and took the stage at the Garland "G-Whiz" Fox Night Party for 150 attendees at Hong Kong's Sky Bar. All education went hand-in-hand with the launch of the Wahl 5-Star Series.
“The sales, engaging attendees and education all lead to success,” Fox says. “We actually broke records in each country. Everyone worked together, from our hosts, to Wahl’s global sales teams and our many attendees. Combining education, performance and demonstrations, the experience in each country was all over-the-top.”
U.S. vs. Asia: Trends & Techniques
A key point of difference in Asia is that cuts are typically executed within eight minutes. Fox highlighted the benefits of a thorough cut, which includes client retention and increased revenue.
“Professionals in Asia look for speed," Fox says. "Here in the U.S., we look for perfection."
Another distinction between American and Asian barbering styles is that blends and fading reign supreme in the U.S., but designs and color prove more popular in Asia. Merging the Western and international styles creates an expanded platform for learning and service.

Cordless tools were most popular during the Asian tour, including the Cordless Magic Clip and Cordless Detailer.
“They’re not only comfortable to use; they’re show-stoppers. Many were responsive and engaged with the use of these clippers,” Fox says “Everything comes back to the functionality of clippers.”
After tours in the U.K. and Brazil in 2014, Germany in 2015 and now Asia in 2016, Wahl seeks to stay at the front of trends and education.
“This is just the beginning of an international fusion for Wahl Professional global education,” says Laura VanderMoere, director of education, Wahl Professional. “Wahl Professional is staying true to its reputation as the leader and go-to resource for clippers and education in the professional industry.”
