Read Patrick McIvor's blog.

Usually, I get inspired by an idea or question for my blogs and run with it, that’s pretty much how I’ve been working since I started writing in December 1999. This month I decided to try something new, I turned to Facebook and posted a request for suggestions. Overwhelmingly, we have a winner, Mentoring - NewBie’s.

I received a very interesting question from a friend on Facebook the other day... “You're a platform artist! Do you think anyone is worth a 1200 dollar haircut?” And my response was....

Patrick McIvor's blog on Grammy Hair. Inside, McIvor comments on Florence Welch, Faith Hill, Katy Perry and Natalie La Rose.

The 2013 Golden Globes took a step back towards old Hollywood style, bringing a high sense of glamour to what is generally known as the most fun awards night of the season. This year, quirkiness was replaced with sensible style and simplicity that any salon guest could feel comfortable wearing stepping out of our chairs for their big nights.

I love this time of the year, I tend to be one of those lets just keep everything until the end of the year, just in case we need it, people. And at the end of the year I love look back so I can plan for growth and success in the new year. I want to know what works, what doesn’t, what I want more of, and what i can do with less of, things I need to work on, things I need to stop and what can I do to be better and happy. This year for me it extra big because we closed our studio and are looking to move, so let me share what I learned.

I was sharing ideas at a beauty school yesterday, one of the things I love to do, and this time the topic was “Hair Color 101 & Beyond,” covering everything from primaries to developer and how to use tone to determine level. So, the class was going great and we started to talk about consultations, how to assess skin tone and eye color, and then I shared something that seemed to be some what shocking...

I know planning a digital marketing campaign can be overwhelming because there are so many options: That’s why I offer social media consultations. But for those salons out there that want to get started on their own, I suggest starting with these five things to increase social networking.

These days, anyone and everyone can pose as an expert, and they do. Do we want a 13-year-old blogger telling women how to use products because we, the actual experts, haven’t gotten around to posting content?

Back in the 80’s, Madonna and others made dramatic fashion statements that others copied, but today style makers like Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga, Kelly Osborne and even Lauren Conrad with her dip dyed ends, change looks so often, they don’t want us to necessarily copy their look, they want to inspire us to think beyond the mainstream of fashion and beauty.
We’ve all seen it, blondes can either be bombshells like Marilyn Monroe, or they can just bomb like some of the young Hollywood crowd that shall remain nameless. To avoid mishaps, I always ask two questions, “Cool or Warm?” and “Dark or Light?”
Love it or hate it, tie-dye hair is the new rage. Lauren Conrad, Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj have the trend down pat. Tie-dyed hair is similar to dip dyed hair, but it’s multi-colored. Patrick McIvor shares with you his process on how to achieve the look!
In my last blog I shared hot tips on how to create great redheads, in this blog I want to share some of my personal signature techniques and ideas for brunettes. It's funny, at this point in my career there is a “Patrick” redhead, blonde and brunette, and in the same way there is a Picasso or a Versace dress or BMW headlights that can be recognized from behind you at night. Why? Because of branding and style that creates the signature to their look that makes it undeniably them. Here’s what I do.

For those of you who follow me on Twitter or Facebook, you know that I have been teasing that 2012 is going to be a big year. I did not mean just for me, 2012 is going to be a huge year for hair color, your color!
I was playing video games with my oldest daughter this weekend and at one point she wanted to try a soccer game she had never experienced. It is an old Nintendo 64 game station we have up at our cabin, so the game play is pretty simple, but the graphics are pretty "real" looking for an old game. As we were playing, I noticed something interesting, she was having trouble because she was failing to try.
