Mermaid Waves

Natural, soft and feminine wavy hair styles were popular looks at the 2012 SAG Awards. Joico Guest Artist and Celebrity Stylist Cherry Petenbrink offers her advice on how to achieve this look worn by actress Jessica Chastain.
Try it: Prep damp hair with Joico Color Care Therapy Restorative Styling Oil before drying. Once hair is dry, set sections on a Topstyler thermal setting device. These ceramic coated clamps heat the hair and then cool it down. For natural-looking waves, mix up the sizes of each section. Begin some curls at the root and some slightly off the scalp, so the waves emerge from the head in a random fashion. Once the hair is cooled, remove the Topstyler clips and brush through for a soft wave.

Steamy Texture
Showing off her freshly colored red hair, stylist Cydney Cornell created a simple and elegant ponytail for The Artist star and SAG nominee, Bernice Bejo.
Try it: Apply serum to fringe, blow dry, then wrap hair around a huge roller. Place steam rollers throughout the rest of the hair to add curls and body. Remove rollers, then rake Oribe Crème for Style throughout the hair. Tease the crown and spray with Oribe Dry for added texture. Apply more Oribe Crème for Style to the ponytail, and wrap a piece of hair around the base to cover the elastic. Smooth sides and add a touch of hairspray to fi nish the look!

Sweet and Sexy Lashes
Zombieland actress Amber Heard’s most alluring feature? Her beautiful almond-shaped eyes. Traditional strip and cluster lashes are perfect for celebs to change looks quickly and add sparkle on the red carpet, but these options for lengthening and thickening lashes are a bit harsh for everyday wear, says Sophy Merszei, CEO, NovaLash.
Try it: Use a medium-to-fi ne diameter extension (such as NovaLash’s Curly Curl Extensions in 0.15 or 0.20mm). Mix a combination of lengths ranging from 8mm to 12mm along the length of the lash line, and save the longest ones for the outer corners.

Try it: “Run a little Macadamia Natural Oil through damp hair avoiding the scalp,” says Celebrity Stylist Mohammad Rahebi, Identity Salon in Encino, California. “Blow dry in small sections using Macadamia Natural Oil Boar Bristle Brush 43MM. The ceramic base helps set and shape the hair style.”
