"Our research has found that 75 percent of African-American women have
relaxed hair, but only 33 percent of them use color for fear of
overlapping chemicals. This is a real problem for clients with gray or
graying hair," says Ingrinette Pope.
It hasn't been a great day for magazines. This morning, media giant Conde Nast announced that they were closing four magazines, including Gourmet, which has been published for almost 70 years, and Modern Bride. This afternoon brought word that Questex Media, the parent company of American Salon and Spa and the IBS shows, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Of course by now we all know that October is EVERYTHING PINK month in order to heighten awareness of Breast Cancer. We've seen pink blow dryers and flat irons, pink foils and dozens of other pink salon items. There are plenty of opportunities to Think Pink, but one of the most fun (and practical) things to cross my desk that could add some laughter to your salons AND home are these VERY COOL and VERY PINK rubber gloves.
Louis Angelo, an artist at the magnificent Garren salon in NYC, is a regular at updating the looks of his many celebrity clients. Most recently he tweaked the locks of Victoria’s Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio giving her a rock star shag with a flattering fringe. New York is SOOOOO buzzing. It's all about the filming of Sex and the City 2...which is shutting down streets all over the city, much to the delight of most New Yorkers. Frank Barbosa is the lead hairdresser and is getting ready to leave for some off-site locations. However, we got to fire off a few questions before he packed up to leave:
Our sense of smell is truly incredible. Aroma can trigger such powerful and emotional responses that can be pleasant or unpleasant depending on our own individual experience. For me, the first time I smelled CND’s Lavendar and Jojoba hand and body lotion, I had a startling recognition of the scent.

elegant, with soaring ceilings, illuminating natural light, beautiful
wood floors and a secluded upstairs area.

available in late 2006, owners Gloria Viramontes and Monica Lorey
seized the opportunity to upgrade their spa.

In case the big-wigs behind New York City Fashion Week haven’t
heard, the J. Bentley Studio & Spa, located about 15 miles
northwest of Columbus, Ohio, could give Bryant Park a run for its
money. The 6,000 square-foot space features a 40-seat theater where a
stage and fashion runway regularly play host to models donning local
designs.
