Justin Toves-Vincilione (@ahappyjustin), a Los Angeles-based stylist and Ulta Beauty Design Team member, fills his feed with bright, shiny beauty creations. Recently, a rich brunette caught our eye, and we had to get the details for how to recreate this level of depth and pure color.

Toves-Vincilione shares that he used Wella’s Kolestone Perfect to help his client achieve a dark, bold brown.

“While Koleston Perfect is known for 100% gray/white coverage, it’s also perfect for color balancing and color correction,” he explains. “When formulating for coverage of 2 or more levels, I almost always think ‘fill with red.’ And while I did have a red shade on hand for this project, I decided to use the 4/07 Pure Naturals on its own to really let the coverage do the work for me.”

Formula and Steps:

  • Service: Pure Balancing
  • Mixing Ratio: 1:2 - One part color, two parts Welloxon Developer Pastel 1.9%
  • Processing Time: Up to 45 minutes
  • Formula 4/07

“For this look, I wanted something in between a gloss and permanent color, and Wella’s new Pure Balancing service was perfect for that,” he says.

But if luscious reds are more your speed, Toves-Vincilione has the color inspiration coming your way.

For this look, the stylist wanted to add depth and dimension to his client’s copper. Bookmark this formula:

  • 5/43 + 6% (20vol) Welloxon Perfect Developer on regrowth
  • 5/43, 6/41 + 8/71 + 9% (30vol) Welloxon Developer as a low light

“What I love about this color line the most is the range of services it allows me to provide: glossing, color correction, gray coverage, toning, color refresh, darken – the list goes on,” says Toves-Vincilione. “Plus, ME+ is the superior color technology of the future. It is the only oxidative permanent hair dye molecule to replace PTD and PPD that reduces the risk of developing a new allergy to hair color while delivering uncompromised color performance.”
