Joseph Trace (@JTcolours) was named our 2022 MODERN SALON 100 Honoree of the Year. This recognition goes to an artist who inspires us with their beautiful work and also a spirit that makes the professional salon world a better place for everyone. Trace and his warm-hearted, inclusive approach to his in-salon work continues to catch our eye.
We asked Trace to breakdown the steps to achieving this transformation. The rich color is the result of a melting mashup of products from different brands ("Yes, I'm a rule breaker!" Trace said when he replied with this color formula--talk about inclusive!). And the smooth result was achieved through a new luxury service Trace is offering in his salon--the JTcolours Experience.
GET THE STEPS
STEP ONE: "I started off with a full head of babylights and foilyage using Wella blondorplex with Trionics accent. By the time I finished her top and around her face the back was ready to be rinsed."
STEP TWO: "I rinsed the back and let the top and around her face finish processing. Once everything was processed I rinsed the remaining."
STEP THREE: "The JTcolours Experience: This is my new luxury service that includes steam, a custom hair treatment, and a relaxing massage. For this client I chose to do my scalp treatment first to help with her dandruff followed by a custom hair treatment to give her hair some extra love."
STEP FOUR: "Now that she’s all relaxed and her hair is all treated I finish her color using...
THE COLOR: "Joico Lumishine Demi-Permanent Cream 3N with equal parts Goldwell Colorance 5NBP mixed with Trionics Gray B Gone, melted into Guy Tang MyDentity Demi 6MR with a little 7BB mixed with Trionics Gray B Gone."
STEP FIVE: "I finished with a silk press using my favorite Virtue and Biosilk products with my Dyson Blow Dryer and EAP heat flat iron."
