Nebula Beauty

Hailey Mahone (@haileymahonehair) of The Style Studio, Texarkana, Texas, says that "With this particular client, we had previously done a fashion color with purple, blue and dark green. It had been 6 weeks since her last color, so her hair was a faded pastel with mostly muted green. I decided to lighten some of the residual green that was left in her hair to give me a cleaner slate to work with." After prelightening her to a level 10, Mahone admits "the fun began. I decided to do a colormelt technique, and my inspiration for this was a galaxy/nebula picture. I used all Kenra Creative colors for this look." This color design took some time. "I began this transition at 9:30 AM and finished at 12:45 PM. My client had to be at work at 1, so I was definitely pushed for time..but I like the challenge."

Here Mahone offers the HOW TO:

Step 1: Using Kenra Color Lightener with 30 volume + 1/4 oz Olaplex apply off of natural color to create a shadow root.

Step 2: Process for 20 minutes at room temperature or until a level 9-10.

Step 3: Prepare Kenra Creative Pink + a dot of Red,  Blue + 2 dots of Violet,  Teal + White, Violet, Magenta + Violet.

Step 4: Apply color using a color melt technique. Pair complementary colors together...for example the dark blue with teal or violet into the pink. Work without a certain pattern. "Just eye the hair and look at the depth to choose which color to go with next."

Step 5: Process for 20 minutes at room temperature.

Step 6: Rinse with cold water, no shampoo or conditioner.  "This is the trick to help with no bleeding colors." Finish with a blowout and curl with a small Hot Tools curling iron.
