Annie Vasquez @anniev.glamandgore is a stylist and makeup artist (check out her body painting and you'll understand the 'and gore' part of her Instagram handle) from Connecticut who, like so many hairdressers, has  time-pressed clients who sometimes take matters into their own hands.

"This client of mine is in the military and always on the go so she doesn’t always have time to get to the salon," explains Vasquez. "She's a natural level 3 and she wanted to be blonde so she decided to try and lighten her hair herself. She picked up some lightener at a beauty supply and a 30 volume developer and let it sit for way longer than it was directed, which severely compromised the integrity of her hair. Also, due to incomplete saturation of the lightener it lifted very spotty."

With an aim of preserving hair health and achieving her client's dream color, Vasquez proceeded with this plan:

FIRST STEP:

"I wanted to even out the all over tone."

Schwarzkopf Professional Blondme Cream Lightener with 30 Volume and Olaplex incorporated into the formula. Applied all over except the root area. Processed for 10 minutes.

SECOND STEP:

Applied Blondme Lightener with 20 volume to the roots and allowed to finish processing.

TONER:

Toned with Joico Lumishine 7sb. Followed with Olaplex Number 2.

Dried and applied equal parts of Guy Tang's Demi-Permanent Kenra 8vm and 7sm with 10 volume. Processed for 30 minutes. Finished with Moroccanoil Intense Hydrating Mask.

CUT and FINISH:

"I gave her a spunky textured bob and used Moroccanoil  Blow Dry Concentrate to help smooth and Guy Tang's #mydentity Medium Hold Spray to finish."
