Now is the time to beef up the beauty tool offerings in your retail area. A new pioneering Professional Salon Industry Appliances Study, completed by Professional Consultants & Resources, reveals that in 2008 the overall growth of salon appliances was at 8.5 percent, nearly three-times the overall salon industry growth of 2.8 percent.

  • Some key appliance findings in the 2008 study include:

  • Burgeoning growth in appliances is credited to huge increases in home hair styling during the recession, mainly due to the use of Ionic dryers and flatirons.

  • New product innovations, higher premium prices and general upgrading to new appliances contribute.

  • Irons grew at 25.5 percent, blow dryers at 10.2 percent and clippers and trimmers also showed growth.
