“High school and college students want to look great when they go back to school, but they’ll be busy and will have little or no time for the salon,” says Beth Minardi, NYC-based celebrity colorist, Joico K-PAK VeroColor spokesperson and founder of Minardi Luxury Color Care.
Minardi offers tips for packing the most into that last visit before the school year begins:
• For the client who wants to hold on to her long hair, frame this appointment as a “health cut.” Assure her that you’ll cut just enough to give a great shape and remove damaged ends.
• Keep your blondes shining with a colorbrightening service. Softly highlighting the partline and faceframing areas will provide a natural look and should hold the college set until Thanksgiving break when they’re back home for another color refresh.

Minardi Pre-Wash Therapy
• Color that has faded can benefit from lowlights. Using either foils or baliage, naturalize the color by applying softer, deeper shades on selected strands.Choose demipermanent color in a shade just a bit lighter than the client’s natural color. The hair will achieve tone-on-tone, rich, multi-dimensional beauty. One of Minardi’s favorite lowlighting formulas is equal parts of Joico Chrome Color G9 and N6 with Chrome Activator.
• If your brunettes look brassy, glaze with a product that diminishes the brassiness and makes the color richer without leaving it darker.
• For the client who’s off to college, discuss the products and tools she’ll need to maintain her look. Suggest economical, liter sizes.
• Send clients out with a great conditioner. Minardi Pre-Wash Therapy deeply conditions and hydrates to repair sun and chlorine damage.
