Stuart Wayne Gavert, salon owner and master colorist, died suddenly on June 14 at age 54.
A salon professional for thirty years and a hair color specialist for twenty-five, Gavert joined forces with his partner Cody Kusakabe to open Gavert Atelier Beverly Hills in 1998. Leading a global existence, he traveled around the world teaching the latest in color, formulation and technique. His celebrity client list was long and included The Hiltons, Shannon Doherty, Annalynne McCord, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Christina Applegate among others.
Modern Salon was honored to have had worked with Gavert throughout his career. Beauty and Fashion Director Maggie Mulhern worked with him on his very first technical photo session when he was based in New York in the early 80's. Most recently, Maggie worked with him again at his Beverly Hills salon and the results appeared in our August 2009 issue. This session was sadly and ironically his last technical photo session for a salon magazine.
"Stuart was really something special," says Maggie. "An amazing colorist, he went that extra mile to share his knowledge and insight whenever and wherever he could. This is truly a loss to the professional beauty world. He will be missed by so many."
