Katy Perry, Taylor Swift and Jennifer Lopez put on their best fashion faces for the American Music Awards Sunday night—all with stunning results.

The big trend was flawless skin with dark smoky eyes and nude lips or bright lips with subdued eyes.

Jennifer Lopez looked stunning in feathery false eyelashes, dramatic eyebrows and her trademark bronzy J LO glow. Huge Oribe-inspired hair put her look into contender for best beauty of the night. I loved that she had a fan blowing her hair from every angle—very Beyonce! Not sure about the cat suit she borrowed from Britney Spears, but her body looked amazing.

Katy Perry’s face was fun perfection—severe eyebrows with purple eyeliner and dark coral lips sang to the back row. Did all that crazy color go with her pink hair?  Surprisingly yes!  Kudos to her sparkly cheeks and glowing skin—I guess Pro Active, which she hawks, really does work.

Newly svelte Jennifer Hudson looked naturally beautiful with simple hair and perfectly applied neutral makeup that enhanced her features. I loved her hot pink lips in her silver red carpet dress and adored the nude lips that matched her presentation dress. This is one example of less is more. Perfection.

Christina Aguilera might have looked a tad large in her bandage style dress, but she looked loads better than she did at the recent Michael Jackson tribute concert. Her softly waved hair paired with smokey eyes and nude lips were a delight—and this girl can sing!

Taylor Swift’s soft and sexy look was right on target. No bells and whistles, but clean skin and defined eyes. I would have brightened her lip, but she looked amazing and age appropriate. I even liked her naturally messy hair.

On the other hand, I disliked Selena Gomez’s attempt at old Hollywood glamour– I mean, it might have been an Armani gown, but she’s a teenager. Why does she need to make herself look older in smokey eyes and waved hair?  I would have lightened up her look with brighter lips and youthful rosy cheeks. Did anyone else think she looked like Justin Bieber’s mom?

Kelly Clarkson definitely has one of the best voices of modern pop, but her style choices continue to baffle.  Poured into a too-tight red sequined mermaid dress, her rather blah bronze make-up didn’t flatter her attempt at old school va va vavoom.  Perhaps some red lipstick would have helped.
