Streetwear for your hair, the denim trend has worked its way into hair color. Like a favorite pair of jeans, this look is effortless to wear and tells a story of urban chic. Once you and your client have decided to go for denim-colored locks, the next question is: what shade of denim best suits her style? Color.Me by Kevin Murphy Director of Education Kate Reid shares her tips on how to achieve lighter, faded denim tones, dark and deep blue shades and in-between, stonewashed color.

1. Lighter Shades of Denim

For those seeking a lighter, more faded shade of denim, Pantone of the Year shade “Serenity” inspired tresses are a subtle way to toy with this trend. This look is distressed in all the right places making it an easy shade to slip into. To create the perfectly faded denim stunner shown in the slideshow, Kate Reid worked with Color.Me Powder.Lightener and a combination of Silver.Toner and Ash shades.

2. Darkwash Denim

If dark and deep is more your style, shades like Navy, Indigo and Midnight Blue make a bold statement for those truly dedicated to denim and are a beautiful way for brunettes to rock the trend. Deepen denim shades by adding more ash tones and a blue booster to your formula.

3. Lived-In, Stonewashed Denim

For clients looking for softer, in-between blues and grays, use a silver toner on its own straight from the tube for a cool, ready-to-wear denim tone.
