COLOR CORRECTION: Banded and Spotty To Rooty Melt

Holly Nakaoka (@headlesshairdresser) of Amber René Salon, Sandy, Utah, says her client first arrived about 8 months ago “wanting a vanilla blonde rooted ombre. She had already had one session with a stylist at another salon.” After looking through the hair, Nakaoka she would need several session for this correction. “Her natural is a level 2, with a band of level 4, then spotty and very brassy hand painted highlights. The first session's goal was to correct lines and spots, as well as lifting brass. Each session's placement is about the same, blurring lines, and bringing up her balayage to get rid of the band next to her root.”

Here Nakaoka shares the details for this transformation:

Sessions one and two:

formula one: Keune Cream bleach + Keune 30 volume

Formula two: Redken Shades EQ 6T + processing solution

Formula three: Redken Shades EQ equal parts 9T, 9P + processing solution

-Starting at the nape, take zigzag sections, and micro-weave. Clip up the top section of the micro-weave, and backcomb the bottom.

-Saturate the ends with formula one, about halfway down the strand. Then feather up the strand using your Framar color brush for a flawless blend.

-Lay a sheet of plastic down, and unclip the top section. Repeat the last step with formula one, but without backcombing, so you can bring the highlights up past the band, next to the scalp.

-Repeat those two steps all the way up the back, and front sections.

-Process under medium heat for 20 minutes. Pull the plastic from the back section and rinse. Continue under heat with the front sections another 15 minutes. Shampoo all together with Kevin Murphy Hydrate Me Wash.

-Glaze root area with formula two, and ends with formula three on damp hair for 15 minutes.

The second session is the same formula and placement.

Session three:

formula one: Keune Cream bleach+ 40 volume

Formula two: Keune Cream bleach + 30 volume

Formula three: Keune Cream bleach+ 10 volume

Formula four: Redken Shades EQ 6T + processing solution

Formula five: Redken Shades EQ 9T + processing solution

-Using the same placement technique as the first two sessions, formula one on the natural roots, formula two in the midshaft, and formula three on the ends to really brighten the blondes.

-Timing and glaze technique are the same as in sessions one and two.
