COLOR CORRECTION: Classic Ombre To Classic Sombre

Susan Aw (@susan.aw), is one of MODERN's favorite colorists, The artist, based at Embellish Salon, in Arcadia, California, has done it again. Here she offers the details for this color correction on a first time client.

"She came in saying she doesn't want the orange and yellow, which she always gets," says Aw. Here she shares how she took her client from ombre to sombre, and adds, "The pictures were taken at 8pm in the evening with no sunlight, so lighting definitely was not in my favor. Color does look lighter in person, but I dislike saying 'it looks better in person'!"

Formulas:

1. Igora Vario blond + 30 volume developer + Olaplex

2. Kenra 7A+10 volume developer

3. 9.5-22+9.18+10 volume developer

4. 8.29+10 volume developer

Steps:

Step 1: Balayage with formula 1, lifting to level 10. (approximately 20-30minutes).

Step 2: Balayage low-light with formula 2, lightly as needed, to break-up any harsh lines.

Step 3: Process for 20 minutes.

Step 4: Tone using formula 4 at roots and formula 3 everywhere else.

Step 5: Process for 20 minutes. Rinse, deep treatment and style.
