COLOR CORRECTION: Messy To Gorgeous Melt

Katie Jones (@katiecolorshair) owner of The Speakeasy Salon, Pendleton, OR (@THESPEAKEASYSALON) says, "When I first met Sam for a color consultation, she had quite the hair coloring journey! Her hair was damaged and far from the color she desired. Her confidence was weak after multiple attempts to 'fix' her color (professionally), which resulted in half a dozen different colors, questionable placement, and damage. She was insecure about her hair and if anyone could even help her."

Here she shares the details for this color correction:

Formula 1 (Highlight): Redken Flash Lift + 30 volume developer + Olaplex step 1

Formula 2: L'Oreal Professionnel Richesse 7.01 + 6N + 6 volume developer

Formula 3: L'Oreal Professionnel Richesse 6N + 6 volume developer

Formula 4: Redken Shades EQ 8WG + 9N + equal parts Processing Solution

Step 1: Apply formulas 1 & 2 in a vertical foil placement at the crown, working toward the hairline. Use a medium weave for formula 1 and slices of formula 2, making the weave finer around her hairline.

Step 2: Continue with vertical foils around the occipital area, slicing the lowlight and weaving the highlight.

Step 3: Apply formula 3 in the nape section from scalp to ends. Go back through the foils and applied formula 3 to every little subsection of hair, scalp to ends.

Step 4: Process 15 minutes, under low heat + 10 minutes with no heat. ("I like my highlights to be like the inside of a banana peel.")

Step 5: At the shampoo bowl, rinse clean and gently towel dry the hair. Apply formula 4 from scalp to ends. Process 5 minutes.

Step 6: Apply Olaplex step 2 for 10 minutes, shampoo and condition. Dry the hair, being extra gentle while her hair was still damp.

"I love dry-cutting for so many reasons, but in this case where my new client had many failed hair experiences before and a lack of trust-- I wanted her to see exactly how much length NEEDED to go. There's something about dry-cutting and communicating the 'next step' with your client  that helps them feel in control, which leads to them really loving the entire salon experience! This is why I love so many things about my career-- but CREATING is my passion. Creating beautiful hair (duhhh!), creating rock-solid-self-confidence in every client, and most importantly, creating a relationship that allows for full trust and fun!"
