Tip number five on my list of the things you can do RIGHT NOW to be a better haircutter is to section hair cleanly. A house is only as solid as its foundation. A haircut is only as good as the base upon which it is build. Building a haircut is about breaking it down and putting it together. The parts of a haircut are the sections and subsections that serve as the platforms for each and every snip and clip.
When I was a cosmetology student the first thing we worked on was sectioning and parting hair. Clean lines all the way to the scalp were the objective. Each and every hair had its place on one side or the other of the base partings. Sections were clean and defined by distinct lines and boundaries. Parting was lesson number one and it is still the foundation on which you build and execute a plan and a haircut.
Taking the time and applying the effort needed to section and part cleanly is a great way to build better haircuts immediately.
