David Babaii on Katherine Heigl’s Premiere Look

Celebrity stylist David Babaii created his “Coiffed Chaos” on Katherine Heigl for the premiere of “One for the Money.” The essence of Grace Kelly was Babaii’s inspiration. “I imagined Grace coming off her yacht in Monaco,” he says. “This look is not about the hair wearing the woman, it’s about the woman wearing the hair.”

To get Heigl’s look, Babaii offers these steps:

1. Start by applying a prep oil (Babaii uses his Miracle Oil Elixir) throughout the hair and then rough dry with the T3 Evolution Dryer. (Rough drying allows the hair to maintain volume.)
2. While blow drying, have the client lean back and run your fingers through the hair backwards to prevent any obvious parting.
3. Once dry, take a clampless curling iron, (Babaii uses the T3 SinglePass Whirl), and randomly start wrapping sections of hair in a cascading wrap from front to back.
4. At this point, use bobby pins (don’t be afraid to let them show!) to pin back hair into a somewhat ‘chaotic’ bun. Pull the hair back in whatever direction the hair goes, forming to the clients head shape.

TIPS:
“Biggest trick is to have the client wash her hair the night before. Give the hair a little nap, that way when it’s time to style, it’s woken up softly.”
“My tool is my end product. When I use my T3, I don’t need to shellac the hair, because it memorizes the hair and the curls. I don’t need hair spray.”
“Day to night with just ten bobby pins. Take your clients free flowing hair and throw in bobby pins.”
