Two-toned hair made its debut in fall/winter 2011 and I predict that it's going to be popular through this spring 2012 (ranging from reds to pastels!) If you're looking for some two-toned color ideas for your clients, try using extensions. They will add a pop of color and they won't damage your client's hair. For example, at the Miuccia Prada fall 2012 show in Milan, Redken Creative Consultant Guido created a two-toned look using hair extensions, making all the models into what he called, “Virtual Princesses.”

The futuristic, otherworldly look provided the ideal contrast to Prada’s restrained yet lavish collection. “All hair is away from the face—there’s no emotion and all the personality is taken away. I envisioned the way a ‘virtual girl’ is drawn in a cartoon, then I added white, red and black extensions which adds to the synthetic feeling of the hair,” he says. “I used colors which looked most dramatic against each of the models’ real hair. The different colors give you that pop of fakeness so we’re not talking about reality.”
