This issue of MODERN is dedicated to planning and preparing for “The Big Day”—whether it be her wedding, prom, holiday party or fundraiser, her hair style is the crowning detail of her total look, and she’ll be looking to you, the professional, to make it picture-perfect.

When a woman becomes newly engaged, it’s not unusual for visions of wedding gowns, tiered cakes and honeymoons to start flooding her mind. As a beauty addict, my first thoughts of planning my walk down the aisle were consumed with how will I wear my hair, who will do my make-up, and what nail color will I choose?
My now-husband and I decided on a destination wedding at Mexico’s Dreams Puerto Aventuras Resort and Spa. In addition to the stresses a conventional wedding comes with, I had to sketch out a plan for humidity, heat and a made-of-steel manicure that would hold up for our twoweek stay.
I read several glowing reviews of the spa technicians at the resort, so I felt confident trusting them with my hair and my bridal party’s updos. For make-up, I looked to my friend and make-up artist of Instagram fame Alex Rivera (@alexfaction), who graduated beauty school with me and always knows the perfect products for my skin tone. I decided on a no-chip French manicure that would look fl awless for all those up-close hand photos.
When it comes time for a bride to choose her glam squad for the big day, what will make her decide on you? Will it be your social media reputation as a bridal expert? Will it be because you’re her long-time hairdresser? Will you snag the business because of a referral from the bride’s BFF?
Once the vows are exchanged, the cake is eaten and the music fades away, what she’ll remember most about her wedding is the way she felt and the look on her spouse’s face when she came down the aisle like she was the most beautiful woman in the world.
