Gerard Caruso had his hands full during Nolcha Fashion Week, held in the Chelsea Pier Studios during New York Fashion Week. Modern stopped by for just one of the shows, the Kattyxiomara SS 2014 collection, which featured beautiful fashion enhanced by customized wigs created by Caruso and the Rusk team.
"We wanted to modernize the roaring 20's shape with a pop of color," said Caruso backstage. "We created shades to go with the designs." Caruso took synthetic wigs in either black or white and added strips of human hair pieces which had been dyed with the new Rusk Deep Shine Direct shades. "I love customizing every look. It's perfect for the salon."
For shape, Caruso wanted to keep a strong geometric shape and strong lines but "I really didn't want anything blunt. The wigs were all cut with Rusk texturizing shears to create a shape that falls right in to place. It's about removing weight and cutting hair all at the same time."
Right before showtime, Celebrity Jennie Garth stopped by and asked for a touch up. "It's one of the fun parts of the job," says Caruso.
