Rusk Artistic Director Gerard Caruso was invited to lead the Nolcha Shows during New York Fashion Week, the independent shows designed to give the opportunity to lesser known designers to present their collection to buyers, press and fashionistas. Caruso looks over each collection and then, with additional direction from the designer, creates a silhouette to best complement the fashion and enhance the beauty of the model.
Modern stopped by for the last set of shows to chat with Caruso and get the break down of one of the most exciting looks of the day: a sparkly faux hawk.
"We decided to rock it up a bit," he says during a mini break backstage. "The hair is teased at the root to create something funky and avant garde, then dry set. 12 bobby pins, 6 on each side, are used to bring the hair up along a top and back center parting. Finally, the hair is finger teased. It's all texture and the perfect use and placement of product. Rusk of course."
