Rutger used Rene Furterer and Sedu to create sleek, modern ponytails to adorn the Reem Acra spring collection 2013 presented this week at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in NYC.

"I wanted to create a style to complement the whole collection," he told me as he prepped his models backstage before the show. "When deciding the look, I realized it should be a style that would not overstate the beautiful fashions, and should still have something extra to give the girls some character. I decided it should be a a variation on a ponytail that defines itself with a clean, sleek look but with some height on top to give it some personality. The sides are scraped back and then the length is simple, clean and shiny."

When asked why there are so many ponytails on runways this season, Rutger offered an answer: "I think a ponytail always looks elegant on the runway, but we must give a little variation to give it it's own character to make it more special."
